Terrington Parish Council

Welcome to Terrington Parish Council website. The Annual Parish meeting and Annual Parish Council meeting will be at 7:00pm on Monday 29th April 2024 in the Village Hall. All parishioners are welcome to attend all meetings.

A sub-committee of the Council is currently beginning work on producing a Neighbourhood Plan.

Issues from previous meetings

• Damage to grass verges The Council has purchased a number of ‘Please do not drive on the grass’ signs and these are being put up in an attempt to discourage driving and parking on the grass verges.
• Speed limit on North Back Lane, rumble strips on Mowthorpe Lane and 20's Plenty initiative Following complaints about the excessive speed of some drivers using North Back Lane and Mowthorpe Lane, NYC have agreed that North Back Lane is likely to be subject to a 20 mph speed limit. Rumble strips have been installed in Mowthorpe Lane to deter speeding as traffic enters the village. The Council noted that Sheriff Hutton has signed up to 20’s plenty campaign and that Bulmer village has a Community Speed Watch programme.
• Village Signs There are a number of damaged and discoloured signs around the village and some advertising signs may not be lawful. The Council is looking into the regulations governing notices and advertising.
• Road markings and signage There has been no progress on painting the road markings on the centre of the road at the rise near Little Terrington, nor on signs on Mowthorpe Lane and Cliff Hill.
• Cemetery improvement work Necessary work on the stone boundary walls has been identified, trees need attention and more shrubs will have to be cut back. A badger fence is to be installed along the rear boundary. Reserves have been allocated to this, a grant has been obtained for part of the cost of the badger fence, and a plan of action is being discussed.
• Swift boxes The Council wrote to Ryedale District Council in May 2021 to request it to use its powers to encourage/require developers and planning applicants to include swift and/or other bird boxes/bricks in their developments. No response has yet been received.
